somatic therapy

inviting our body into the conversation

Somatic therapy is an umbrella term for kinds of counselling that focus on the connection between your mind and body. It’s grounded in the understanding that our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations are all deeply interconnected.

Somatic therapy might be a good fit if:

A woman with brown skin smiling, she wears a beige scarf
  • You’ve tried other kinds of therapy, but are still stuck in the same emotional patterns

  • You tend to analyze your feelings but have trouble actually feeling them in your body

  • Paying attention to your emotions feels overwhelming, confusing, or triggering

  • The idea of “sitting with your feelings” doesn’t make sense and you want some step-by-step guidance

  • You’re searching for a more engaging, creative, and practical approach to caring for yourself

Somatic therapy can help with:

A Black woman with short curly hair sits on a couch, she's smiling and looking to the side
  • understanding why you respond the way you do when you’re stressed

  • cultivating an embodied sense of safety, grounding, and calm

  • shifting out of automatic fight, flight, or freeze responses

  • feeling more present in your body and in the moment

  • healing the impact of childhood or unresolved wounds

  • showing up for yourself and others with more compassion

  • living out your values in your daily life

  • processing and moving through intense emotions

  • releasing judgement about your experiences and emotions

What to expect in a session:

A man is sitting on a couch smiling with a coffee cup in his hands
  • I’ll invite you to tune in to your inner bodily experience, what’s going on inside beneath your thoughts.

  • Together, we’ll cultivate a sense of curiosity and non-judgement towards whatever you find inside.

  • I can help you adjust your experience if it gets too uncomfortable or overwhelming. Ask me how in a consultation!

  • I’ll offer suggestions to help you connect with your internal world, like checking for tightness or spaciousness, movement or stillness, heat or coolness.

  • I can help you explore a theme or metaphor that’s come up using movement, imagery, or breath to deepen your insight.
